Drive to the Hospital

So after talking to my brother in-law I talked to my daughter. She also insisted I go to the ER. I said I would.

Instead I decided to get a shower. Maybe that would help and besides I was disgusting after the run. The shower actually convinced me I needed to go to the hospital. I quickly dressed and went downstairs to my car. By now it was pouring out - in fact it rained a full 4 inches in about an hour.

The trip to RWJ is only about 10 minutes but because of the rain and flooding it took 15-20. Halfway through the drive I regretted it, I was in big big trouble and I knew it. Somehow I made it to the hospital and the emergency area but by now was in great distress. I could barely breath and had shooting pains down both arms. My chest felt like it was in an ever tightening vise.

I couldn't find parking close and ultimately parked a couple hundred yards away. As I walked to the ER it occurred to me that I was going to drop dead right here in the parking lot. The pain got much worse and it was obvious to me I was in the throes of a full blown heart attack. I was scared and really expected to just collapse.

I made it to the ambulance entrance and banged on the glass doors. A few nurses came running out and could tell I was in distress. They immediately put me in a room in the ER. Maybe I had a chance after all.

... to be continued
